Outstanding EPQ Success
We are incredibly proud to celebrate an exceptional set of Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) results at The Castle Rock Sixth Form this year.
Every one of our Year 13 EPQ students achieved grades between A* and C, marking a 100% pass rate. Even more impressively, seven of our students were awarded the top grade of A*, a remarkable achievement that highlights the strength of their independent research.
The EPQ qualification – awarded by the AQA exam board - invites students to complete an individual research task, digging deeper into a topic of their choice. It is equivalent to an AS level, contributes valuable UCAS points and is highly sought after by top universities as it demonstrates independence, research skills and academic resilience.
It can take the form of an academic written report, similar to a dissertation, or an artefact — a practical product or outcome — accompanied by a shorter research-based report of at least 1,000 words detailing planning, production and evaluation.
This year, students explored some fascinating topics, including:
• Comparison of Film Noir and Neo Noir
• HeLa cells
• The Nano Tyrannus Debate
• The Benefits of Attending Cadets
• Egyptian Figures
• Women in F1
• Advancements in Neuroscience
These outstanding results reflect the unique environment of our sixth form, where students are encouraged to explore their interests in depth, challenge themselves academically and pursue the subjects and questions that truly inspire them.
Head of Sixth Form Emma Parker said:
Through personalised support, guidance and a culture that truly values curiosity, our sixth form empowers students to take ownership of their learning and develop the confidence to follow their passions.
Congratulations to all the students involved for their hard work and commitment.
